Let’s meet, mingle, and have some fun while learning how to scale applications effectively with message queues!
This tech meetup is a gathering of enthusiasts, professionals, and curious minds who share a common interest in the art and science of efficient message queuing software. This is our first time hosting a tech meetup in New Zealand and we're excited to meet up in-person with the community and newcomers alike!
What is a message queue?
A message queue acts as a middleman for the purpose of publishing and/or consuming messages between loosely coupled applications. Messages in the queues can include any kind of information such as simple text or information about a process or task. It's a safe place for messages to wait until an application can consume them for processing.

Speakers
Speakers of the evening will be Brett Cameron and Annie Blomgren.
Brett is VP of something or another at VMS Software Inc. and a recidivist RabbitMQ consultant, with a fondness for loud music, guitars, beer, and integrating RabbitMQ into strange environments when he probably should be working on something else. Previously Brett worked as a senior architect with HP's Cloud and Enterprise Services groups focusing primarily in areas such as distributed systems, transaction processing, integration, and legacy application modernization leveraging open-source technologies. Brett has worked extensively with Erlang and RabbitMQ for over 15 years, and message queueing technologies in general for much longer than that, developing and supporting message queueing solutions as well as delivering training and consulting. After spending several years based in Europe, Brett is now living back home in Christchurch, New Zealand. Brett holds a doctorate in chemical physics from the University of Canterbury, and maintains close links with the University, delivering guest lectures and previously acting as an advisor to the Electronic and Computer Engineering and Computer Science departments on course structure and content.
Annie is a Technical Support Engineer at 84codes, the company behind CloudAMQP. CloudAMQP is managing the largest fleet of RabbitMQ clusters worldwide and have done so for over a decade. We are so nerdy about message queueing that we created our own open-sourced message broker, LavinMQ. When not debugging message brokers, Annie likes spending her time outdoors with family, biking or skiing in Queenstown.
Looking forward to see you there!
